August Scrapbooking Month in Review

I cannot believe it is already September. Our children are back to school, today is Labor day and fall is officially on its way. The year is simply flying by and before we know it we are going to be sipping apple cider and watching the leaves change colors. In the Midwest we are already experiencing unseasonably cool weather. Here is what happened in the scrapbooking blog in the month of August. See if you missed anything. How to Get Your Scrap Space More Organized There is nothing more inspiring than sitting down to scrapbook in an organized space. However, … Continue reading

Maine Getaways

When people consider getting away for a while most think of exotic locations or ones that provide high entertainment value so their kids won’t complain of being bored. Others are more concerned with price and choose their vacation destinations based on how far they can stretch their dollar. It’s not everyday that you can find a place that meets all those needs. But, that’s exactly what tour operators are touting the state of Maine as: “A reason for all seasons.” New England’s largest state is home to spectacular sights and amazing attractions. And hotels there are now offering equally incredible … Continue reading

National Parks in the Northeast

I’ve written several blogs about the incredible beauty found at the many national parks that line the West Coast of the United States. However, as I look back it appears I may have neglected the equally breathtaking parks located on the eastern portion of the country. One of the most popular national parks in the northeast spans nearly 50,000 acres along the central coast of Maine. Acadia National Park covers a huge expanses of ground from the coastline to the mountains. Visitors can travel from the rocky coastline, which gives way to cobblestone beaches before ascending to the rugged mountains … Continue reading

Get Ready For The “Carnival of Carnage”

It’s that time of year again… Madness, mayhem and horror are being unleashed at Universal Orlando Resort’s Halloween Horror Nights. Billed as the largest, most intense Halloween event in the country, the annual seasonal celebration is expected to draw record crowds this year. A warning to parents with young children the event is not for the faint of heart (or the child that experiences regular nightmares). However, if you have teens that enjoy having the Halloween stuffing scared out of them then pack your bags now. Universal says this year Halloween Horror Nights is the most extreme, fear-filled event in … Continue reading

How The Weather Will Affect Your Fall Leaf Peeping Trips

Perhaps, I am just naïve. After all, I grew up in a place where the only things that fell from trees were coconuts. So when it comes to judging the brilliance of fall foliage I may be a bit out of my league. Personally, I think the mere fact that the leaves changes hues at all is exciting and amazing. However, it seems other more astute leaf peepers have different ideas on what constitutes a prize-winning season. Experts in the Midwest and South are warning travelers who are criss-crossing the nation in search of the ultimate fall foliage that they … Continue reading

Rev Up Your Vacation In The Motor City

In just a few days Midwesterners (like me) won’t have to travel to Las Vegas to get a taste of what life is like at a splashy, ultra-luxury resort. Next week, the long awaited, hotly-anticipated $800 million MGM Grand Detroit will open its doors to the public. The resort is the sister property to the famous Las Vegas venue and the first MGM Grand hotel outside of Nevada. The hotel is like nothing we have here in these parts. We’re talking 400 state-of-the-art rooms and suites, celebrity-chef restaurants, a massive casino, and a 20,000-square-foot spa. The new MGM Grand Detroit … Continue reading

Seasonal Photo Tips—Using Natural Light To Capture Fall Colors

Mother Nature is putting on quite a show in our neck of the woods. The trees are exploding with vibrant reds, oranges and yellows. I’ve already tried to snap a few pictures of my daughter frolicking amongst the leaves. But most of them are still clinging to the branches so I’ll have to wait a couple more weeks before I get a nice shot of her popping out of a pile of leaves. I love this time of year. Not only because the weather turns crisp and the leaves create breathtaking backdrops, but autumn provides wonderful opportunities to use natural … Continue reading

It’s Time To Think Pink

It’s that time of year again… The trees may be donning brilliant shades of red, yellow and orange, but in the fashion world it is time to think pink. We are just days away from the month of October and the kick off of Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2008. Regular readers of this blog know that my mom is a breast cancer survivor and during the month of October I traditionally provide details on how you can get involved in the fight to conquer this insidious disease. In the coming days look for blogs highlighting the efforts of hundreds of … Continue reading

Happy Fall, Y’All!

Autumn’s here! The autumnal equinox took place at 5:51 a.m. Eastern time today. I wish it only felt more fall-like here in Nashville. We had a heck of a summer with above high temperatures. (Actually, we had a stretch of record-busting 100 degree days that made everything –people, plants, and pets—swelter.) Then we got a little reprieve the last two weeks. The air felt a little cooler in the mornings and evenings, and the highs were closer to seasonable. It started to take on fallish aspects. But from Thursday until today we were back to above-average temps for this time … Continue reading

Seasonal Travel Deals–Flying Into Fall
