How to Sleep Cheap on Vacation

My husband told me a story yesterday about some unconventional places to stay that were cropping up as a result of the 2012 Olympics in London. For example one creative cabbie is renting out his cab as a sort of makeshift hotel for desperate tourists who waited too long to get regular lodgings for the games. For $75 a night, his guests can sleep somewhat comfortably in his cab, with access to the bathroom in his home. Considering that hotel rates for the games are in the hundreds if not the thousands of dollars per night, that is a pretty … Continue reading

Home Based Business Idea – Open A Bed and Breakfast

Do you enjoy entertaining guests? If you would like to work from home and you have a passion for entertaining, you may want to think about getting into a type of home-based business that has been around for a long time. Owning and operating a bed and breakfast or a small inn can be a very enjoyable experience, if it is the right fit for you. Many people have grown tired of staying in hotels and motels. Bed and breakfasts and small inns offer these people the promise of something more home-like, something unique. Think of the person who travels … Continue reading

Holidays and Marriage- Part 2

There are other considerations you might need to take into account regarding holidays and your marriage. One is how much planning. Do you want to stay in one place or keep moving? Some people are happy to get in the car or on the plane or train and go off and let the holiday just happen. Others would prefer to plan well beforehand. This can have advantages in getting better hotel or bed and breakfasts deals if you plan but it may mean ending up staying longer at a place even if you don’t like it overly because up have … Continue reading

Travel Deals to Europe (Minus the Worries Related to the Weak State of the Dollar)

I’ve discussed the weak state of the U.S. dollar (against the euro) in several previous blogs and if any (or all) of them has deterred you from traveling abroad, perhaps this posting will change that. The good news is that there are many ways to stretch your dollar in Europe–as long as you know where to go. A number of countries have yet to enter the European Union or adopt its currency, and you might be surprised at just how affordable they are, even after the exchange rate. So, if you are looking to save some dough on your next … Continue reading

More Travel Tips for 2008

Whether you plan to crisscross the country in a Winnebago, take to the skies on a trip to Austria, or set sail on a high seas adventure in the Caribbean, the following information might affect your travel plans. WEAK DOLLAR It’s no secret the weak dollar is affecting travel to Europe and other parts of the world. (Or, in the words of my brother who just returned from Canada: “The American dollar and Canadian dollar are equal for crying out loud.”) What’s more, according to a recent United States Tour Operators Association survey, 50% of its members have reported a … Continue reading

Choosing Non-Disney Accommodation

Staying at one of the Disney hotels will immerse you fully in the Disney experience, but unfortunately, the expense of this will put it outside of the budget of those with limited finance to spend on a room they don’t intend to spend much time in. There are however many other types of accommodation within the area that are far lower in cost and although perhaps not as luxurious as the Disney ones, they do provide you with a clean room in which to recharge your batteries overnight. When choosing your non-Disney accommodation the first thing you need to consider … Continue reading

What To Consider Before Staying At A Bed and Breakfast

Valentine’s Day is less than two weeks away. The holiday falls on a Wednesday this year so you can bet that Bed and Breakfast’s around the country will see brisk business on the days leading up and following February 14th. And why not? Unlike its flashy resort cousin, the B&B is known for providing a cozy, intimate, romantic experience. Well… that is if you pick the right one. The following are some points to remember before pulling out your credit card to book a room: Location. When I was doing research about B&B’s I found that Fredericksburg, Texas (population 9,000) … Continue reading

Scripture Study Schedules

Does your family, like many, struggle with studying the scriptures together? Perhaps the problem isn’t desire but instead simple technical difficulties. A shift in your routine might make for a more pleasant, spiritual experience. We have often been counseled by our leaders to spend time as a family each day feasting on the words of Christ. Many times I have heard parents emphasize that even if your family grumbles through the study, the important thing to do is to build good habits. And I agree. Yet I wonder how much considering the individual needs and personality of our family might … Continue reading

LDS Vacations–Palmyra, New York

Today I am going to focus my LDS vacation blog on Palmyra, NY. This is a really great place to visit. I visited about four years ago during the Hill Cumorah pageant, which was very well done. Palmyra is the place where Joseph Smith received the first vision. The Book of Mormon was buried in the Hill Cumorah, and there are various other sites to see. HillCumorah.org is a great site to help you plan your stay in Palmyra. If you are planning on visiting Palmyra during the Hill Cumorah pageant, you will need to reserve your rooms ahead of … Continue reading
