Valentine's Day Travel Packages for the Special "Girls" in Your Lifeby Michele Cheplic | More from this Blogger 10 Feb 2008 12:27 AM Regardless of their age there is one thing most "girls" have in common---a love for shopping. Some might not willingly admit to the obsession, but give a girl the chance to walk away with new goods--no strings attached--and I doubt you would find many who would turn the other cheek. That being said here are a couple of ways you could make the day of your favorite female just in time for Love Day: BOSTON Beantown is getting ready to open its first American Girl Place store and to celebrate it will be hosting an American Girl Fashion Show, on March 8, 2008, at the Renaissance Waterfront Hotel. The show will include an opportunity to purchase the latest American Girl clothes and accessories. In addiiton, tea and crumpets will be available for guests and their dolls, along with a souvenir goodie bag and a chance to have a photograph taken with actress Maya Ritter, star of the movie "Molly: An American Girl on the Home Front." Tickets are $58 a person. However, if you book the American Girl Fashion Show package at Boston's Omni Parker Hotel you will get one-night's lodging, a buffet breakfast for one adult and one child, two tickets to the fashion show (a $116 value), a reservation for a photo with Ritter, a visit backstage to meet the models and collect autographs, and 10 tickets for a raffle for a series of prizes all for $399 per room per night. NEW YORK For the older (ahem... more experienced) female shoppers in your life, consider this next deal. Shop Gotham is giving a few lucky ladies the chance to shop like a local for the day. The Big Apple might be a shopper's mecca, but finding huge savings on fashionable designs can be a challenge. If you're a Manhattan neophyte, it's easy to wind up wasting precious time and money in the city's massive department stores. Enter Shop Gotham. The company runs two- to three-hour walking tours of some of the city's top shopping districts, including SoHo and the Garment Center. Experienced tour guides lead shoppers on a dream trip that features stops at popular boutiques, showrooms, and sample sales where it's possible to nab deeply discounted designer duds. You can choose from two packages. The first includes a trip to the city's Garment Center where you will tour showrooms and take advantage of exclusive discounts that are a minimum of 50% off current-season goods. The other is a SoHo tour, which features discounts at 12 specially chosen boutiques. The two-hour SoHo tour ($36) runs Fridays through Sundays and the three-hour Garment Center tour ($63) runs Wednesdays and Fridays. Both tours also include a bit of historical and architectural insight as well.
