“Twilight” Hot Spots

Given that Stephanie Meyer’s book “Twilight,” documenting a teenage girl’s love affair with a vampire, has sold 85 million books and counting, and the big screen adaptation brought in $385 million at box offices worldwide, it should come as no surprise that “Twi-hards” are flocking to the Pacific Northwest. According to local officials in Forks, Washington, tourism has jumped 600% since the release of the first book in the teen vampire love saga back in 2005. The series’ second book “New Moon,” which opened as a movie at midnight, makes a pit stop in Italy, but the majority of the … Continue reading

Are You Going to the Winter Olympics?

T-minus 14 days until the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Vancouver, British Columbia, is getting ready to shine in the international spotlight, but I won’t be there. Will you? As a broadcast journalist, I had the incredible opportunity to cover the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta. However, I’ve never attended the Winter Games. It’s a travel dream of mine that I don’t know when will come true. Sandra Bullock and the Taylors Score Big at the People’s Choice Awards

If you’ve read my blogs, you know that I absolutely love the award season. It just kicked off with the 36th Annual People’s Choice Awards. Now some people scoff at the People’s Choice as not really awarding the most deserving people, but I figure it is important because the winners are chosen by the fans. Sandra Bullock may be starting what is her road to the Oscars last night with her win as Favorite Movie Actress for The Blind Side. She beat out some pretty stiff competition – Jennifer Aniston, Kristen Stewart, Drew Barrymore, and Anne Hathaway. Another Bullock film, … Continue reading

Super Savings in Sizzling Seattle

Never mind frying an egg on the streets of Seattle, last week you could have roasted an entire pig without the help of a pit. The area has been experiencing record high temperatures this season. In fact, last Wednesday the National Weather Service reported that Sea-Tac Airport reached 103 degrees, making it the hottest day in the history of local weather records. The previous all-time record high was 100 degrees set on July 20, 1994, at Sea-Tac Airport and on July 16, 1941, when records were kept downtown at the Federal Building. Keep in mind that the average high temperature … Continue reading

Surviving Spring Break at Walt Disney World

Though the weather may not be the best indicator, spring is finally here. Soon, school will be letting out for a brief break before the rush to summer vacation begins. For many families, this means that a Walt Disney World spring break vacation will soon be upon them. Of course, you may notice a particular word in that last sentence: many. That’s right. Your family won’t be the only one cruising down South for the spring vacation. Nope. You and a thousand other families. Not to mention teenagers and college students who are making their own spring break memories within … Continue reading
