Baldwin Brother Wants You To Think Pink

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In a previous blog I listed ways you can get involved in the fight to conquer this insidious disease. One way is to purchase any number of unique items designed specifically to raise money for breast cancer research. Today, I’m giving you another way to help support the cause and it involves a big name celebrity. Actor William “Billy” Baldwin is auctioning a day on the campaign trail with presidential hopeful John Edwards and a private falconry lesson with Robert Kennedy Jr. to raise funds to benefit The Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research … Continue reading

Family Travel: Taking Your Children To A Strawberry Farm

I was going to title this blog “A Trip To The Strawberry Farm—A Parent’s Survival Guide,” but I didn’t want to send the wrong message. Yesterday my 3-year-old daughter and I finished off the last two pieces of a very tasty strawberry rhubarb pie. It was a pie we made together with the fresh strawberries we picked earlier this summer at our local berry farm. (I froze a few pounds and have been adding them to recipes throughout the summer.) Nothing says summer than fresh strawberries, right? That was my thinking about two months ago when I loaded my daughter … Continue reading

Think Pink In Hawaii

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but one hotel is getting a jump-start on the festivities. The Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa, located on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu (the resort is situated in Honolulu on the edge of world-famous Waikiki Beach) wants you to think (and travel) pink. The resort is offering a room package and special dining menus that include a contribution to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, an organization created to help fight breast cancer. The “Travel Pink” deal includes special room rates, which begin at $178 per night, with a three-night minimum … Continue reading

Football Star’s Wife Thinks Pink

October is “Breast Cancer Awareness Month” and tomorrow is “National Mammography Day.” For the past few weeks I have been using the fashion file of this blog category to provide links to products you can purchase to help in the battle against breast cancer. Yesterday a famous breast cancer survivor unveiled her contribution to help fight breast cancer. Deanna Favre, the wife of Green Bay Packers quarterback (and three-time-NFL MVP), Brett Favre and mother of two daughters is a breast cancer survivor… and now a fashion designer. Last year, the Green Bay Packers sold pink Packers caps to an astounding … Continue reading

Travel: Think Pink–Part 2

Would you believe a pink plane? October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and in honor of the occasion the world is thinking pink. From cosmetics to clothing, kitchen appliances to travel accessories, the color pink (the color chosen to symbolize awareness of the disease) is everywhere. Even on a commercial airliner. It’s not a mistake, and you’re not dreaming… that really is a pink Delta Boeing 757 (click here to see photo of pink plane). In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Delta says it’s “introducing a newly painted Delta Pink Plane to its fleet to raise awareness for … Continue reading

Figuring Out Transportation at Disney World

One of the erroneous assumptions I always made growing up was thinking that Disney World worked just like the small local amusement parks I’d been to. Pay one fee, get access to everything on the site, and get around the park easily. We know for sure the former isn’t true, and neither is the latter. Disney World is huge. It’s basically a city unto itself. So any family doing a Disney World vacation that wants to see more than one park has to figure out transportation from one park to another, plus how to get on and off the site … Continue reading

Are You Giving Your Kids the Kiss of Death?

I am more J.Crew than JLo or JWoww. I prefer khakis to skinny jeans and respectable cardigans to revealing camisoles. And that goes double for cosmetics. If it were not for the fact that I have skin like a Shar-Pei and a daughter that I am forced not to embarrass in public, I would probably go without make-up every. single. day. While I am far from a Japanese Kabuki actor, I do apply some foundation, mascara and eyeliner on days I am required to venture beyond my driveway. If I forget to add one or more of the aforementioned cosmetics … Continue reading

Potential Expansion for Disneyland Paris

After remaining quiet for half a decade or so, construction vehicles on Disney parks are really revving up again. We have the major Fantasyland expansion currently underway in Disney World, a new Disney park planned for Shanghai, and now, a potential new theme park for Disneyland Paris. The U.K.’s Telegraph newspaper reports that Euro Disney – the European corporate branch of the conglomerate – has reached a deal with the French government allowing it another 20 years during which to build on the lands surrounding the park. The government owns all of the land around Disneyland Paris and previously only … Continue reading

Disneyland Scholarships

The month-long period between mid-May and mid-June seems full of one thing: graduates. Starting with college graduations in the middle of May and continuing with the high school graduations scattered throughout June, it seems there’s a fete for a graduate everywhere we turn this time of year. Of course Disney, as famous as is it for throwing huge celebrations, has to get in on the fun. Every year the Disneyland Resort grants 10 high school seniors $5,000 each in scholarships to help further their education. The Disneyland Scholarship Program is about more than just good grades. Students who want to … Continue reading

Spending the Holidays in New York City

I love spending the holidays in New York City. The problem is, so do millions of other people. If you don’t mind dealing with huge crowds, then soaking up the sights and sounds of the season in one of the world’s most magical cities, should be on your to-do list this month. At the top of your must-see list should be Rockefeller Center. Its world-famous tree and ice skating rink serve as amazing backdrops to family photos. In addition, Radio City Music Hall, the view from Top of the Rock, and the observation deck at 30 Rockefeller Plaza are equally … Continue reading
