Tickets to Paradise on the Rise

I have got to stop looking at airline rates to Hawaii. Doing so just depresses me. But I just can’t seem to help myself. I’ve subscribed to several travel sites that automatically send me updates on ticket prices for the dates that I am planning to travel home… and the news is not good. With record-breaking fuel prices and the recent demise of several carriers servicing the islands things are not looking sunny for my trip to the “Aloha State.” What’s more, from now until at least September, airlines have scheduled 14% fewer seats than last year between the mainland … Continue reading

Perils in Paradise

For me, each day is a battle between fear and trust. Maybe it is for you too. If we are not careful our fears can control us. They can stop us enjoying life and more importantly stop us doing those things God wants us to do. Though I love God’s creation and enjoy swimming in Jervis Bay, I’ve heard from a friend who owns and operates the business, ‘Canoe with a View’ of the marine life that lives in our bay. Each day as I step into the waters near our home I have to overcome the recurring fear of … Continue reading

Holiday Themes on the Cheap

Use the word “cheap” during the holiday season and you’re likely to be labeled “Scrooge” or “Grinch.”  However, not everyone can afford to bleed through wads of cash in order to deck halls, make merry and spread holiday cheer. Fortunately, there are ways you can get into the spirit of the season without spending a ton of money.  One way is to stick with a theme.  There are a slew of holiday-friendly themes you can use to spice up your home in time for Christmas.  For example: Hawaiian Holiday:  You don’t have to spend thousands of dollars importing fresh flowers … Continue reading

Right now Carnival Cruise Lines is offering deep discounts to Mexico provided you book early… as in five months early. Hawaii Travel: Good News/Bad News

Let’s start with the bad news… In what will likely come as no surprise to avid travelers, Hawaii’s go! airlines will soon be charging a $10 fee to passengers wanting to check a bag on interisland flights. According to a statement released by Phoenix-based Mesa Air Group Inc., go!’s parent company, it is joining several other carriers by charging for checked bags. The reason: (the standard) “need to find other sources of revenue to deal with a spike in fuel prices.” Is there any other reason these days? The new fee will go into effect August 10th. However, passengers who … Continue reading

Summer at a Ski Resort

I admit; I’m not much of a snow bunny. In fact, I have probably been to more ski resorts during the summer months than during the winter. However, there’s a method behind my travel madness. Visiting a ski resort in the middle of summer is significantly cheaper than when the snow is chest high. Many mountaintop hotels offer great savings to guests during the warm summer months. In fact, right now Expedia is advertising a super summer sale on rooms at top-rated ski resorts. Take a look: VERMONT If you are looking for an affordable summer getaway head to Vermont’s … Continue reading
