On this day after Halloween, most department and discount stores are busy putting out their Christmas merchandise, so it stands to reason that the travel industry would follow suit by advertising their top picks for holiday getaways.

If you are looking to spend quality time with your family this holiday season, but don't want to stay cooped up in the house your entire vacation, consider these budget-friendly travel options:

ILLINOIS

Splash into the holidays at KeyLime Cove Resort and Waterpark, located just north of Chicago in Gurnee, Illinois. The massive indoor waterpark features multiple tube and body slides, a wave pool, lazy river, spa, and an 8,000 square-foot arcade. During the Thanksgiving weekend the resort is offering a two-night turkey special starting at $390. The deal includes accommodations, four waterpark passes, Thanksgiving buffet for four, and children's activities. On Friday, there's a Sunset Parade, tree-lighting ceremony (where "tropicool" Santa will be visiting in his swim trunks), and a cookie decorating party for kids.

NORTH CAROLINA

Get into the Christmas spirit by staying at the Hemlock Inn this season. The property, located in Bryson City, North Carolina (just 1.5 miles from an entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park) is featuring a Christmas Tree Package through December 13th. The special includes accommodations and the opportunity to cut your own tree at a nearby Christmas tree farm. Trees can be up to seven feet tall and are valued at $56. The farm also offers free hayrides with hot chocolate. The cost of the tree is included in the package deal, which starts at $139 per night.

IDAHO

The upscale Coeur d'Alene Resort wants you to take advantage of their two-night Lighting Ceremony package. The deal starts at $485 and includes lodging, admission to the resort's spectacular Christmas tree lighting ceremony (featuring the world's largest Christmas tree), a fireworks show, two adult cruise tickets to the North Pole (kids cruise free), a $100 dining credit for breakfast, and the Thanksgiving buffet or Sunday brunch. The Coeur d'Alene's 162-foot Grand Fir will be decked out with thousands of lights that twinkle to the tune of Jingle Bells. After the tree is lit you and your kids can meet Frosty the Snowman before cruising over to the North Pole to witness dancing elves and a singing Santa Claus.
