Summer Travel Bargains

Typically, I don't blog about travel packages unless they offer outstanding values. The following trips definitely qualify as real travel deals. All of them include flight and lodging (3-night stays) at some of the best-located properties in their respective cities.

NEW YORK

Roundtrip flight and hotel package starts at $900. Lodging at New York's Hotel Pennsylvania--one of the five largest hotels in Manhattan (it has more than 1700 rooms). The hotel has historical ties to the city, but its location in the heart of midtown is what makes it a winner in my book. The hotel is situated directly across from Madison Square Garden and Penn Station. In addition, Macy's is one block up the street and the Empire State building is right around the corner. Also, the Theatre District is located just a few blocks away.

SAN DIEGO

Roundtrip flight and hotel package starts at $600. Includes accommodations at the Bristol Hotel, which is located in the heart of the city's Gaslamp District. The Bristol shares sidewalks with world-class retailers, restaurants and the San Diego Convention Center. The San Diego Zoo, and Sea World are just a short drive from the hotel's downtown location.

SEATTLE

Roundtrip flight and hotel package starts at $650. Includes lodging at the Roosevelt Hotel. The hotel is located in the middle of Seattle's premiere shopping district and is near the theater district. In addition, you are within walking distance of the world famous Pike Place Market.

CHICAGO

Roundtrip flight and hotel package starts at $675. Includes accommodations at Hotel 71. Located just off Michigan Avenue with views of the Chicago River, Hotel 71 is a four-star property that offers luxurious amenities. The hotel is located just a couple blocks from the city's "Magnificent Mile," which is teeming with world-class restaurants and stores such as Neiman-Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Tiffany & Co., Crate and Barrel, The GAP and NikeTown.
