Lodgings from California to Florida are rolling out the welcome mat and handing out gas cards left and right to guests who spend part of the summer at their inns, hotels, motels and mansions. If the sky-high price of gas has you seriously considering canceling your family's road trip perhaps the following deals will convince you to change your mind: MAINE In one of the more cleverly named gas giveaways the three Historic Inns of Rockland is offering a 3-night "No Fueling" package. The deal includes a room rate of just $149 per night plus you'll get a free tune-up, with an air-filter change, air-pressure check, and tire gauge (a value of over $55) thrown in as well. You can also add on a fuel-injection cleaning service for $139 (a 25% savings) to improve fuel efficiency. The deal expires on October 31, 2008. SOUTH CAROLINA The Summer Vacation Fuel Rebate being offered at the Marina Inn in Myrtle Beach is giving guests 10 cents back on every mile traveled in a round-trip drive, up to 1,600 miles. The hotel staff uses Mapquest to calculate the mileage of your trip and you can get up to a $160 credit, which will be deducted from your final hotel bill. Standard rooms at the inn go for $189 per night. The offer is good through August 31, 2008. MICHIGAN In Detroit the Best Western Sterling Inn is offering a "Fill Up Fridays" package. For $135 per room per night you'll receive accommodations and admission for four to the hotel's 32,000-square-foot water park, plus a $20 gas voucher good at any Speedway gas station (there are three close to the hotel). The deal is good through August 31, 2008. VIRGINIA The Weekday Getaway at Shenandoah National Park's Skyland Resort or Big Meadows Lodge includes two nights' accommodations, daily breakfast, and two tickets to Luray Caverns, a popular area attraction featuring a series of caves with huge, cathedral-like rooms. You'll also receive a $30 gas voucher good at any ARAMARK gas station in the park. Rooms start from $129 per night and the offer expires on July 31, 2008. PENNSYLVANIA Twenty-five hotels and B&Bs throughout the state of Pennsylvania are participating in a free gas program. To get in on the savings you need to book a two-night stay at any participating lodging and you'll receive a $25 gas card, redeemable at 60 Lancaster County Turkey Hill Minit Markets. The offer expires on June 26, 2008.
