Say "Aloha" To Whales in Hawaii this Winter

Many travelers head to Hawaii during the winter months to escape the subzero wind chills and snowy sidewalks. Others visit the "Aloha State" when the mercury plummets because they know that's when some of the world's largest tourists migrate to the waters off the Hawaiian Islands.

Winter is peak season for whale watching. Each year, Humpback whales swim more than 3,500 miles from the North Pacific to Hawaii to breed, calve and nurse their young.

Just in time for whale watching season Outrigger Hotels is offering guests a front-row seat to take in all the action. From December through March the majestic creatures perform acrobatic displays just off Maui's coastline. The whales swim so close to the shore you don't even need binoculars to watch them breach and spout in the waters that front the resorts.

The Outrigger Napili Shores and Outrigger Royal Kahana are perfectly situated so you can take in the sights without leaving the resorts' property. At Outrigger Napili Shores, everyone gets in on the whale-watching fun. Guests who spot whales are encouraged to ring the resort's "Whale Bell" near the oceanfront pool area to alert fellow guests of the sightings. Rates start at $229 a night through March 2008. Meanwhile, the Outrigger Royal Kahana Resort offers unobstructed views of the Molokai Channel where whales travel between the islands. If you can't wait until winter to escape to paradise you might want to take advantage of a great fall deal the Aloha Beach Hotel Kauai is offering through December 15th. The resort's "Fall Room, Car & Breakfast Package" includes a Garden View room, compact rental car, and daily buffet breakfast for two, for $169 per night.

The 216-room property is located just six miles from the airport and sits on 10 acres of landscaped grounds at the southern tip of Wailua Bay. The hotel features two swimming pools, a whirlpool spa, fitness room, tennis courts, shuffleboard, volleyball, two restaurants, a cocktail lounge, daily maid service, and free parking.
