Are considering putting the brakes on your family's summer vacation because you simply can't afford it? You aren't alone. Millions of families are reevaluating their annual summer getaways thanks to the exorbitant cost of fuel and the sky-high price of air travel. But the news is not all bad. There is a silver lining in the gray cloud of summer travel. Some hotels across the country are offering amazing savings to help lure cash strapped families to their lodgings. You might have to pay more to get there, but at least you will be saving once you arrive.

Take a look:

COLORADO

Attention outdoorsy types: the Pines Lodge in Beaver Creek, Colorado wants you to save money this summer by taking advantage of their Hike By Day, Raft By Night package. The deal covers a three-night stay in a room with two double beds, a guided day hike on the Royal Elk trail, a picnic lunch, and a nighttime float trip on the Colorado River (night-vision glasses are complimentary). A GPS rental is also included in the price. Rates start at $333 per night for a family of four, or $999 for the entire 4-day, 3-night package, which represents a savings of 30% off rack rates. The offer is good from June 1-September 30, 2008.

If your family enjoys bonding in the great outdoors you should also consider the deal being offered by the Far View Lodge inside Mesa Verde National Park in Mesa Verde, Colorado. Their Family Value package includes two nights' lodging, two ranger-led tours to the Cliff Palace and Balcony House ruins, a ride on the Durango and Silverton train, daily breakfast, and complimentary dinner for kids 11 and under. Rates start at $265 per room per night, or $530 for the two-night stay. The deal is good through October 21, 2008.

ARIZONA

The Lake Powell Family Adventure program in Page, Arizona caters to families who crave stimulation in nature. The deal covers two nights at Lake Powell Resort, which is located on the border of Arizona and Utah and within the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. While there you will get to use a 19-foot-power-boat; a water-ski and rope or an inner tube and rope for your boat ride; boxed lunch for four; a $50 resort credit good for rentals, shopping, food and beverages, or lake cruises; plus you'll have access to the Lake Powell Explorer Program, a series of kid-friendly games and outdoor activities. Rates for the two-night stay range from $559 to $756 per room, based on travel dates and availability. The deal is good through October 31, 2008.
