Saving on Summer Travel--More Southern Bargains

Whether your family loves to spend time together in the great outdoors or enjoys visiting historic sites and learning what life was life for clans in the early 1900s, the Southern region of the United States has you covered. Several major lodgings from Tennessee to South Carolina are trying to get families to sample life down south this summer by offering outstanding travel deals. If you have been debating whether your family's budget can handle a group trip the following packages might just have what it takes to convince you to hit the road.

TENNESSEE

If you have children then you are going to truly appreciate what the folks at Homewood Suites has cooked up this summer. The national hotel chain is offering a "Loves Kids" package, which features a one-night stay for two adults and two children in a two-room suite at the Homewood Suites by Hilton Nashville-Brentwood. For just $114 per night your family will be treated to a hot breakfast (called Suite Start), an in-room movie, a guide to family-friendly local attractions, and a bag stuffed with coloring books, crayons, and animal cookies. The property is located near some of Nashville's most popular kid-friendly attractions, including the Nashville Zoo, CoolSprings Galleria, Belmont Mansion, and the Tennessee State Capitol. If the weather doesn't cooperate during your visit the front desk keeps a variety of board games that you can check out for a night. You can also take advantage of the hotel's "welcome home" reception: a light meal and drinks offered Monday through Thursday evenings. Each suite comes with a fully equipped kitchen, and the hotel offers a fitness center, a pool, and an on-site convenience store. The offer is good through December 31, 2008.

SOUTH CAROLINA

In Charleston, South Carolina, Kings Courtyard Inn is offering a Family Fun package, which includes two nights accommodations, continental breakfast daily, tickets to either the South Carolina Aquarium or the Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum, a carriage tour through historic Charleston, and a "ghost hunt" walking tour. History loving families will enjoy touring the inn, which is one of Charleston's most historic bed-and-breakfasts, dating back to 1853. The antique filled Greek revival-style structure is accented with Egyptian details and each of the 41 rooms is unique, with an oversize bed and views of the courtyard or the back garden and spa. Another bonus: The property is located within a short walk of the Shops of Charleston Place and other historic homes, churches and gardens. Rates start at $210 per room per night. The offer expires on September 4, 2008.
