More Ways to Save Money on Luxury Summer Vacationsby Michele Cheplic | More from this Blogger 08 Aug 2008 11:55 PM If you have been putting off taking a family vacation this summer because you simply couldn't afford to take one, then I have some welcome news. Several luxury hotels are slashing prices on rooms in order to generate business. High-end properties that most of us would ordinarily only read about in magazines are offering attractive summer rates and special package deals to fill rooms. Take a look at some of the swanky lodgings that are trying to make up for a reduction in business travel this summer by offering red hot deals to vacationing families: NANTUCKET If you are looking for an upscale New England escape, consider heading to the Wauwinet on Nantucket. Known as the island's most luxurious hotel, the lodging is located on pristine waterfront property nine miles from downtown Nantucket. Right now you can score a room there for just $500 per night (usual summer rates start at $700 a night). The price includes full breakfast each morning and hosted beverage and cheese service every afternoon in the library. The hotel's activities include yoga, island tours, beach walks, mountain bike rides and lobstering. The Wauwinet is also home to a world-class spa, which offers services such as cranberry crush body treatments, Atlantic seaweed wraps, and beachfront massages. FLORIDA Right now the Acqualina resort and spa in Sunny Isles, Florida is offering a "Summer Fun" package for the entire family. The hotel is treating parents to a private dinner on the beach, while providing 24-hour nanny service for young guests. Discounted rates start at $375 for two-night stays, $350 for three to four nights and $325 for stays over five nights in a room that normally runs $850 a night during peak season. NEW YORK The grand Peninsula hotel in New York City is offering a romantic summer weekend getaway package in celebration of its 20th anniversary. From now until September 1, 2008 if you pay for one night at the regular rate of $775 a night, you get a second night for $20. And if you happen to be celebrating your 20th wedding anniversary, you will receive a complimentary room upgrade with proof of marriage certificate. The package includes continental breakfast delivered to your room, a welcome bouquet and champagne, and a one-hour carriage ride in Central Park.
