More Travel Deals Commemorating Black History Monthby Michele Cheplic | More from this Blogger 13 Feb 2008 03:20 PM As I mentioned in my previous blog the significance of Black History Month is not being lost on B&Bs across the country. During the month of February dozens of lodgings are offering deep discounts to commemorate the annual celebration that honors contributions made by African Americans the world over. The following are a few more B&Bs that are offering incredible deals throughout the month. MARYLAND Located in Cambridge's historic district, near Long Wharf Marina the Queen Anne-style Cambridge House is near several sites related to African-American history: the Harriet Tubman Museum; the Bazzel Methodist Church, where Tubman's family worshipped; the Stanley Institute (a 19th-century schoolhouse), and Underground Railroad trails winding through Dochester and Caroline counties. Rates start at $125 per room per night for a queen-size bed and at $150 for a king-size bed with daily breakfast included. Throughout February, guests who stay two nights will receive complimentary fresh flowers in a vase and a box of chocolates (valued at $40). KENTUCKY Christopher's B&B, located in Bellevue, Kentucky is a former 1880s Christian church. During the month of February the lodging is offering a package with a one-night stay in the Loretta or Beverly Rose junior Jacuzzi room and two adult tickets (valued at $24) to the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati, located about a mile north of the B&B. While you are in Cincinnati you could also stop at the Harriet Beecher Stowe House, where the author of "Uncle Tom's Cabin" lived prior to her marriage. Package rates start at $135 per room, and additional nights can be added for $105 per room per night. Daily breakfast is included. MICHIGAN The Insel Haus B&B boasts a secluded location in the Straits of Mackinac, an entry-point to Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The Bois Blanc Island lodging is filled with antiques and is also home to a library; a living room with 10-foot-high ceilings, stained glass, and a fireplace; and a pristine forest and shoreline just outside the front door. To commemorate Black History Month the inn is offering a Heritage in Black package, which features a private screening of the Emmy-winning film "Heritage in Black," which the Department of Defense uses in its race-relations courses (it was produced and directed by the inn's owners), two nights' accommodations, breakfast and family-style lunches and dinners daily, and a 10-minute flight on the small commercial carrier Great Lights Air between either Cheboygan or St. Ignace, Michigan, and Bois Blanc Island, all for $580 per person.
