More Places To Hike In Hawaiiby Michele Cheplic | More from this Blogger 30 Jun 2007 06:15 PM In my previous blog I filled you in on some of the best places to hike in the "Land of Aloha." While most tourist tend to gravitate towards Oahu's landmarks, historical sites, world class shops, and universally famous beaches there are some who travel to paradise for the chance to explore nature at its finest. Personally, I can't think of a better way to experience the 50th state's most beautiful sites than by lacing up some comfortable shoes and taking a hike. Here now are a few more of Oahu's most popular hiking trails: Manoa Falls Trail-Waterfall lovers this one is for you. Manoa Falls trail winds through a thick bamboo forest and over massive boulders before providing you with incredible views of a stunning 150-foot waterfall. The hike is less than a mile long so you won't work up a major sweat, which is good since you are not permitted to swim at the falls. A 2002 landslide dropped rocks into the pool at the base of the falls, forcing the state to rope off the swimming area. If you have enough energy once you reach the falls you can continue on the 1.3-mile Aihualama Trail. The windy path takes you to the end of Manoa Valley and a gorgeous overlook. The Judd Trail---The trail has gained in popularity since the hit ABC drama "Lost" filmed scenes here, including Eko's death. The trail is rugged and you must cross a shallow, rocky stream to get to the waterfall at the other side. Once you make it through a bamboo and eucalyptus forest you can take a ride on the swing rope or slide down the slippery rocks into the water below. Nuuanu Trail---This trail is recommended for the experienced hiker. It is a rigorous climb to the top, but once you get there the views are unparalleled. Plus, this trail connects to 20 other trails above Honolulu. Kaau Crater Trail---This is another great trail for fans of waterfalls. The 1.5-mile hike takes you past multiple cascading falls, which you can splash into if you need to cool off.
