If you have a Harry Potter fan in your home and haven't solidified your summer travel plans---stop what you are doing. I just found the ultimate getaway for kids (and their parents) who are fascinated with the boy wizard.

Never mind about Universal Orlando Resort's new Harry Potter theme park that I detailed in a previous blog. "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter" is not scheduled to open at Universal's Islands of Adventure theme park until late next. In the meantime why not embark on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the places that inspired the Potter series?

The seven-night trip takes families to Oxford, the Scottish Highlands, Alnwick Castle and Edinburgh. The trip includes a tour guide that gives you a look at the sites through Harry Potter's eyes. Your own personal storyteller will thrill you with the legend of Padfoot and the true tale of the Hand of Glory, which grabs Harry in Knockturn Alley ("Chamber of Secrets"). You will also take an unforgettable journey on the Locomotive #5972 vintage steam train, and take part in an exclusive "Hogwarts" banquet, plus a ground-based game of Quidditch.

The tour departs in July and costs $2,980 per person for adults and slightly less for kids.

If your child is more interested in ancient civilization than a world of wizards and warlocks then consider taking a kid-friendly trip to Egypt. Egypt Magic is offering an 11-day tour of the history rich country. The Nefertari Adventure takes you on a trip back in time where you will explore all the major sites of Cairo, Aswan and Luxor. It also features a rare opportunity to cruise down the man-made lake, Lake Nasser, into the territory of the ancient Nubian Kingdom, where you can see the ancient temples and tombs that were rescued and relocated during the building of the Aswan High Dam. During your 11-day exploration of the center of the Arab world you will travel by car, horse-drawn calesche, camel, donkey, felucca and airplane, not to mention four days on a ship. The price for the tour begins at $2,147.
