Living Large in L.A. on a Budget

When I was planning our family's annual vacation to Hawaii a few months ago I seriously considered breaking up the grueling 14-hour trip with a 3-day layover in Los Angeles. I figured it would be a great chance to visit friends and check out the local kid-friendly attractions. In the end I nixed the idea because I couldn't find an affordable way (airfare-wise) to fit in the mini-vacation within our regularly scheduled vacation. However, I did find some great deals on hotel rooms in the Los Angeles area. If you looking for a place to stay in L.A. on a budget you might as well make the most of these deals that I unfortunately won't get the chance to take advantage of.

Kyoto Grand Hotel & Gardens

Talk about hitting the bargain jackpot! Cheap and clean-what more could you ask for from a hotel room in L.A.? Orbitz is offering a great deal on rooms at the Kyoto Grand Hotel & Gardens located in downtown Los Angeles. For $92 per night you can stay at this three-star high-rise hotel that offers a choice of Japanese or Western-style suites. The décor throughout the hotel is elegant and uncluttered. The property also includes a Japanese garden, a full-service spa, and five restaurants.

Ramada Plaza Hotel & Suites

If you are looking for a more traditional hotel check out the Ramada Plaza Hotel & Suites on Santa Monica Boulevard. It is also a three-star property with contemporary furnishings. Guestrooms offer art deco flair and include posters of Hollywood celebrities. There's even a rooftop pool. Bottom line: For $119 per night you are getting a clean, but not fancy hotel room that is no different than anything you wouldn't expect of a Ramada chain in the midrange category.

Chamberlain West Hollywood Hotel

For $249 per night you can stay at this chic boutique hotel that sits within walking distance of L.A.'s famed Sunset Strip. The hotel recently underwent a massive renovation and now offers guests a more modern style. The most popular attraction at the hotel is its rooftop pool lounge that offers spectacular views of the city below. Rooms come with private balconies and gas fireplaces. The hotel also features a first class restaurant that offers modern California cuisine.
