Dive Into Summer

Over in the PHOTOGRAPHY blog I just wrapped up a series of posts on underwater pictures. It wasn’t until a few weeks ago when I was watching my daughter frolic on one of Hawaii’s most beautiful beaches that I considered experimenting with an underwater camera. She loves the water and can almost swim on her own so it won’t be long before the only opportunity I will get to snap her at the beach will be underwater as she freestyles away from me. The other reason I am considering taking some underwater photography classes is because I grew up in … Continue reading

Cruising the Pacific on a Ribcraft and a Scrapbooker’s Hawaiian Paradise

Never been on a Ribcraft? Never heard of a Ribcraft? Then head to the Big Island of Hawaii and find out what the locals and tourists are raving about. The Ribcraft or Rigid Inflatable Boat is all the rage in the Islands right now. In fact, the Kona Village Resort just hired a company to custom make one of the 27-foot vessels specifically for their guests. The boat includes seating for about 20 and currently provides access to nearly two dozen nearby dive sites, offshore snorkeling excursions, sunset cruises and seasonal humpback whale watching treks. The Ribcraft is equipped with … Continue reading

More Tropical Island Getaways

The weather outside may not be frightful just yet, but give it a few weeks and I’m sure you’ll be dreaming of trading in your snow shovel and frozen windshield wipers for a sandy beach and frozen tropical libation. Naturally, I would be remiss if I didn’t recommend Hawaii as the ultimate sunny locale; however, I will admit this time of year the “Aloha State” can get a bit congested. As I mentioned in my previous blog there are a number of lesser-known exotic islands that have far fewer tourists soaking up the sun on their crescent shaped beaches. So, … Continue reading

Hawaii’s Glass-Bottom Boat Tours

Hawaii is known for having some of the best conditions for snorkeling, SCUBA diving and snuba diving. Near my home on the Big Island of Hawaii the waters are crystal clear and the skies are almost always cloud-free. When the conditions are excellent, underwater visibility can reach 120 feet, which, of course, provides unprecedented viewing of coral reefs that teem with bright tropical fish and other colorful marine life. In previous blogs I mentioned how you can take advantage of the many professional snorkeling tours the island has to offer, but what if you would love to look at fish, … Continue reading

Cancun Vacation – Xel-ha A Snorkeler’s Heaven

Xel-ha nicknamed “Snorkel Heaven” definitely deserves the title. It was my first time to snorkel and I was a little nervous but he combination of fresh and salt water in the calm waters of Xel-ha was prefect. We swam for hours watching the plentiful schools of colorful fish, both large and small, and even saw a few manta rays swimming along the bottom. Activities The park is open from 9am to 6pm and there is plenty to keep you busy the entire time. You can explore lush jungle paths on bicycle or foot. Refresh yourself in the crystal clear waters … Continue reading
