Last-Minute Gifts for Those Fighting the "Black Bag War"

A couple of years ago I wrote a blog entitled "Black Bag War." It was an ode to the millions of airline passengers forced to huddle around luggage carousels and decipher which of the hundreds of rotating black suitcases rightfully belonged to them.

In the 20 months or so since I wrote that piece luggage manufacturers have expanded their color palettes and now offer a wide variety of products in funky styles and colors. Now you can buy a wardrobe of luggage to fit your particular lifestyle and mix and match as needed.

What's more, if you are still searching for the perfect holiday gift to give the frequent traveler in your life you might want to check out the items listed below. If your favorite flyer's luggage is limited to black and red, you could gift her with a splash of color that will help her save precious time at the baggage carousel.

Zebra-Print. It's fashionable, fun, and your favorite traveler will have no problem spotting it. International Travller's Zebra Print 3-piece luggage set is available in three sizes (21.5, 26.5 and 29 inches) and features a fully lined interior with organizer pockets, patented expansion system and a black-and-white ABS/polycarbonate shell.

Bold and Edgy. Not to be outdone, perennial luggage favorite Samsonite, has created the Hero Upright for the hip traveler. It is a 22-inch rolling carry-on case made of molded ABS and features a raised outline of a human ribcage and sternum on one side and a backbone on the other. It's available in black and, hold on to your paper tickets--WHITE! The collection also features several pieces with a crocodile-textured pattern.

Spikes. This laptop case sticks out like a bull in a china shop. Hence it's name--the Bullfight case. The black-leather case comes with three accordion compartments and ample space for a 17-inch laptop. But, what sets it apart from other traditional black laptop cases is the chrome striping, the red flame-inspired stitching and the horn-shaped, spike-tipped handle. Ole!

Bubble-Gum Pink. Titan Luggage has created a super-sleek X2 case that holds a 15-inch laptop within its well-padded polycarbonate confines. But, it's what it features on the inside that will have people doing a double take. The bag's clamshell design is painted in a mega-bright palette of fruit-flavored candy colors from eye-popping apple green to hot pink.
