Kid-Friendly Halloween Happenings

My 5-year-old's favorite theme park is Six Flags Great America. However, she won't go near the place this time of year. Her fear of all-things ghoulish makes the amusement park's popular Fright Fest off limits during the weeks leading up to Halloween. Fortunately, there are several scare-less Halloween events taking place through October at other parks around the nation.

Some kid-friendly favorites include:

HallowBoo at Idlewild in Ligonier, Pennsylvania is perfect for your littlest ghosts and goblins. The theme park's Halloween events include trick-or-treating through Storybook Forest and meeting Ricky Raccoon and other characters. There are also Halloween-themed rides and attractions, games and a walk-through maze, plus favorite fall foods.

Also in Pennsylvania is The Count's Spooktacular Halloween event at Sesame Place in Langhorne. Through October 31st, little ones can go trick-or-treating in their costumes, enjoy a hayride, stroll through Count von Count's castle, and catch the "Countdown to Halloween" musical show featuring their favorite Sesame characters.

Kid-o-ween at Wild Adventures in Valdosta, Georgia gives kids a safe place to trick-or-treat during the month of October. Youngsters can also explore a fun hay maze, hop on the sing-a-long train ride, shake their groove thing in their costumes at the Monster Mash Dance Party, and create festive crafts at art stations situated around the park.

If you prefer to celebrate Halloween minus the bloody zombies, consider heading to LEGOLAND in Carlsbad, California. The theme park's Brick-or-Treat Trail is kid-friendly and zombie-free. Festivities include trick-or-treating, live music courtesy of the "Boo Crew," and costume contests.

California is also home to Disneyland and Mickey's Trick-or-Treat Party. Through October 31st your pint-sized boos can enjoy an evening with their favorite Disney characters doing arts and crafts, going on rides, and jamming to live bands.

Mickey's home in Florida is also getting in on the Halloween festivities. Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Walt Disney World runs through November 1st. Arrive in costume for trick-or-treating with your favorite Disney pals, then take in Mickey's "Boo-to-You" Halloween Parade, featuring the "Happy HalloWishes" fireworks spectacular.
