Never been on a Ribcraft? Never heard of a Ribcraft? Then head to the Big Island of Hawaii and find out what the locals and tourists are raving about. It’s the tropical resort where ABC’s first “Bachelor” wooed one of his “potential wives.” Things didn’t work out for bachelor Alex (it didn’t help that he spent much of his time in paradise battling a stomach virus), but the romantic setting at the Kona Village Resort (located in Kona, Hawaii on the western portion of the Big Island) could do wonders for your love life. What’s more, for a limited time the opportunity to rekindle a romance or help fan the flames of a new one is being offered at an affordable rate. A “Funny” Handbook To The Hawaiian Islands

Perhaps the title of this blog is not as fitting as it seemed a minute ago when I was tapping it out on this page. It may not be perfect, but it is accurate. It’s also a rare event that I would write a blog promoting a handbook about my home state. But this one happens to be peppered quite a number of funny tales that I had to do it (hence the title of my blog). Author Michael Perkins has penned a book called “Surviving Paradise: True Life and Death Stories of Hawaii’s Hidden Dangers.” You’d be hard pressed … Continue reading

The extensive $50 million upgrade to the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa on the Big Island has finally been completed. A Hawaiian Hanukkah

When I first moved from Hawaii to the “mainland” (the continental United States) to attend college nearly 20 years ago I received a lot of attention from my fellow classmates (mainly because no one could believe I would willingly leave Hawaii for life in Wisconsin). I spent the better part of my first semester fielding questions including, “Do kids surf to school in Hawaii?” and “Does everyone live in grass shacks there?” Oh, and my personal favorite, “How long did it take you to drive from Hawaii?” To set the record straight: no, we don’t surf to school; we live … Continue reading

Hot Hawaiian Festivals

My neighbors leave for Hawaii tomorrow. I am so jealous. They will be visiting Oahu and the Big Island of Hawaii. Initially, they were planning their trip for August, but they found a great deal on-line and changed their travel dates to take advantage of it. Knowing that I grew up in Hawaii, they asked me to put a list together of local cultural events that I would recommend they attend. Unfortunately, that was when we thought they would be visiting during the month of August. Long story short, I created a list detailing August events, but now they won’t … Continue reading
