Got Kids? Saving Money on the Roadby Michele Cheplic | More from this Blogger 11 Apr 2008 11:52 PM Who says the only lodgings that embrace families are the ones where "Kids Eat Free" signs hang above the entryway? With the cost of gas soaring, house prices falling and the word "recession" appearing on newspaper headlines from coast-to-coast hoteliers are getting creative to lure families with children to their properties. The following cost-saving travel packages are not only easy on your wallet, but they are also packed with kid-friendly activities that will truly make your vacation on a shoestring a memorable one. DENVER The 196-room JW Marriott Denver at Cherry Creek is currently offering their Kids in the City package, which includes a night in a standard room, four tickets to the Denver Zoo, and milk and cookies at turndown. And to make sure your little one feels at home the hotel is also throwing in a stuffed teddy bear, child-sized robes and slippers for use during your stay, family-friendly DVDs, books, and board games, and the Passport to Savings card, which provides discounts at local toy stores. Rates start at $235 per room per night, which represents an incredible savings considering the room alone is typically priced at $329 and tickets to the zoo for a family of four run about $32. BOSTON The Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel wants you to treat your kids to their EduFunCation Escape. The package deal runs $299 per room per night and includes breakfast for four at 606 Congress restaurant and a choice of four tickets to the Institute of Contemporary Art or the Boston's Children's Museum. You'll also get four tickets to ride the Old Town Trolley, which stops at the USS Constitution and the New England Aquarium. Admission to the aquarium is included in the package deal as is a scavenger hunt at Maritime Park, located across the street from the hotel. You'll find a list of trivia questions in your room and you explore the park to find the answers. Then, you return back to the hotel where you'll receive a prize. The EduFunCation Escape package runs through September 2, 2008.
