Getting Away With The Girlsby Michele Cheplic | More from this Blogger 09 May 2007 08:40 AM Do you know what you are getting for Mother's Day? It may seem like a strange question, especially if you are used to being surprised with spectacular gifts on your big day. However, if you are anything like my sister-in-law, you know exactly what you are getting for Mother's Day, because you put in your requests right around Easter. Don't get me wrong. My brother's wife is very sweet, but her son is not even two yet, so that means my brother is left to do the Mother's Day gift shopping. Being the wise woman that she is, my sister-in-law (not wanting to get another blender for Mother's Day) provides a wish list to potential gift givers. If you happen to be mother who is not afraid to voice her wants (yes, I know this tactic doesn't necessarily translate into gifts galore) and one of your desires is to escape from the chaos that is your life, you may consider these hot "girl getaways." "Beauties and the Beasts" Spring Creek Ranch in Wyoming is offering a female-only safari. The five-day getaway will give you a chance to prowl for bears, moose, bison and wolves with your best gal pals in Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. Packages include lodging, safaris, meals and a massage and cost $1,710 per person. "Girls with Guns" This girls-only escape is offered at Teton Ridge Ranch in Idaho. If you like to shoot guns at clay targets, this may be your dream retreat. In addition to practicing your aim, you will enjoy gourmet meals under the stars. The package includes lodging, meals and activities. Rates start at about $600 daily for a double, about $500 single, with a three-night minimum. Head To Mexico If your typical day includes cooking, cleaning, chauffeuring, and calming crying kids--you don't need an excuse to escape (and I'm not talking about a hot bath with Calgon). Consider heading south of the border to soak up some rays on a Mexican beach. United Airlines is offering terrific rates to some of Mexico's hottest destinations, including Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta and Ixtapa. What mom wouldn't enjoy exploring ancient ruins, shopping at colorful markets, or windsurfing, cliff hanging, or deep sea diving... with or without the kids? Here are some sample fares (one-way): Los Angeles - Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo $75 Los Angeles - Los Cabos $75 Los Angeles - Puerto Vallarta $85 Portland, OR - Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo $135 Portland, OR - Los Cabos $135 San Diego - Los Cabos $102 San Francisco - Los Cabos $105 Seattle - Los Cabos $145 Seattle - Puerto Vallarta $145 Related Articles: In Honor of Mother's Day: Mother-Son Day Trips Learn more about Michele Cheplic ![]() Michele Cheplic was born and raised in Hilo, Hawaii, but now lives in Wisconsin. My girlfriend and I are always pondering that Mother's Day should be about doing whatever it is the mom wants to do, and sometimes that means NOT being a mom, but just getting away from it all. Be it a vacation, or just an hour at the mall. Fun article! Michele Cheplic |
