Gas and Go... or Notby Michele Cheplic | More from this Blogger 23 Jun 2008 02:02 PM Okay, now I've heard everything... With the price for a single gallon of unleaded gas well over the $4 mark in most parts of the nation it's no wonder motorists are getting creative when it comes to filling up at the pump. For instance, a guy in Denver recently gave new meaning to "squeezing every penny at the pump." Get this: according to news reports, clerks at a gas station just outside the Mile High City actually called the police when a man came in and insisted on using $10 worth of pennies to prepay for his fuel. Responding officers say the clerks told them they were too busy with other customers to accept the man's sackful of pennies. They added that the guy became offensive when they made him wait, so they called police and referred to him as an "unwanted person." Police say the man left before they arrived at the gas station. He reportedly took off with his pennies, but without any fuel. Oh, and one more thing... Gas station employees say the man was driving a satellite TV news truck. I have to confess I pay for gas with change ALL the time. Whereas some "friends" (actually, it was only one guy) have ridiculed me for doing so, I consistently maintain that change is still American currency and what's more, I have NEVER ever been given so much as a cross-eyed look from gas station attendants who have waited on me. In fact, most of them are more than happy to take my change and some have even gone so far as to thank me for filling their registers with dimes, nickels, quarters, and yes, a few pennies. Granted, I always stack my change in neat rows and I have never paid exclusively with pennies, but I might add that I worked in TV news for more than a decade and I can honestly say that I am not surprised that a employee driving a sat truck tried to pay with pennies because frankly, that's about how much they make. How many of you think the gas station employees went overboard by calling the police?
