Take a look: Reunion Tower You can't miss it and you'll probably keep wondering what it is until you go inside. The 50-story Reunion Tower looms over downtown Dallas with a giant ball-shaped dome that houses an observation deck and a restaurant. If you want a bird's-eye view of the city (and a pretty good meal) then head to the very top of the tower. The observation area is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and until midnight on Friday and Saturday. The ride up the elevator costs $2 for adults and $1 for seniors and students. Children 12 and under are admitted free. McKinney Avenue Trolley If you are taking a multi-generation vacation you don't want to miss the chance to jump aboard the McKinney Avenue Trolley. The restored electric streetcar travels a three-mile route between the downtown Arts District and all the restaurants and shops in the McKinney Avenue area. It offers a welcome respite from walking and makes stops at various points, including McKinney Avenue Antique Market and McKinney Avenue Contemporary art gallery. The ride between the Dallas Museum of Art and the City Place Light Rail Station takes 40 minutes and is free. Dallas Museum of Art Even if you're not an art aficionado I would still recommend making a stop at the Dallas Museum of Art. The facility houses a number of traveling exhibits each year, but its impressive permanent collection is what attracts most visitors. The museum boasts works by impressionists Renoir, Degas, Van Gogh and Cezanne; paintings and sculptures by post-World War II American artists; and pre-Colombian and Egyptian art. The museum is located on the northern edge of downtown. It's open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Admission is free the first Tuesday of each month.
