Leaf-peepers this is your time of the year to celebrate. There's a nip in the air and Mother Nature is working overtime, adding vibrant yellows, oranges and reds to the horizon. Fall is an ideal time to take a family trip and collectively enjoy the glorious wonders of nature. Of course, family vacations mean dipping into the family budget. But not all trips have to put a strain on your wallet. Take a look at the following travel deals, which allow you to take advantage of the seasonal changes without going into debt.

COLORADO

Crested Butte. This amazing deal caught me off guard. I know Colorado is a popular winter destination; I just didn't realize how low some hotels were willing to go to attract fall travelers. Right now, the Grand Lodge Crested Butte is offering rates starting at $105. The price is based on a two-night stay and is per person per room. The Lodge is a full-service hotel located in picturesque Crested Butte, which is covered with colorful wildflowers this time of year. The hotel's location puts you within walking distance of salmon fishing, and host of world-class restaurants and quaint shops. Also, United Airlines offers flights into nearby Gunnison-Crested Butte airport. The hotel specials are good through November 17th.

Cascade. The Rocky Mountain Lodge & Cabins in Cascade, Colorado is currently offering a "Fall Extravaganza" package. It includes a four-night stay, a trip to Pikes Peak on a cog railroad, a two-hour horseback ride through the Garden of the Gods, a picnic lunch, dinner with entertainment at the Flying W Ranch, and breakfast daily--all for less than $750. Here's the catch: there's a four-night minimum stay required and the rate differs depending on what size suite you are requesting. The smallest suite will put your package price at $718 while the most expensive room will run you $1,058 for four nights. The offer is good through October 31st.

CONNECTICUT

Groton. The Mystic Marriott Hotel and Spa is currently offering a "Fall Wine Package," which includes accommodations in a deluxe guest room, breakfast daily, a four-course dinner with local wines at the hotel's Octagon restaurant, a $100 gift certificate for the Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa, a VIP tasting and picnic lunch at Jonathan Edwards Winery, a tour and tasting at Stonington Vineyards, a cookbook featuring the flavors of Mystic, Connecticut, and a complimentary bottle of wine of your choice at each vineyard. Rates start at $575 per room per night. This absolutely incredible deal expires on September 30, 2007. If I could figure out some way to get to Connecticut before the end of the month I would not hesitate to take advantage of this travel steal!

Norwich. The Spa at Norwich Inn located in Eastern Connecticut is offering a "Romantic Country Getaway" from now until December 1st. The deal includes lodging at the 1930s Colonial Revival-style inn, rose petals scattered from the door to the bed, a bottle of sparkling wine, chocolate-covered strawberries, breakfast and dinner daily, and use of the spa's facilities (including a sauna, a whirlpool, and an indoor pool), starting at $458 per night (good on stays Sunday through Thursday). The price jumps to $559 if your stay encompasses a Friday or Saturday night.
