San Francisco is a wonderful place to spend time with the family. With so many things to do and see, you will never have time for boredom. While there, we recommend you take time to visit the San Francisco Exploratorium. This hands-on museum was created with the curiosity-hearted in mind. Family members of all ages will enjoy the experience, as you make your way through the museum, getting to touch literally hundreds of fascinating exhibits.
For the young children or just the young at heart, this is a fabulous place, one not to miss while in California. Although the Exploratorium is open all year long, with the exception of some holidays, we suggest you go in the late spring or early summer when the weather is best. During this time, the days are warm and sunny, making this the ideal time. When there, the museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Best of all, the San Francisco Exploratorium is just $13 for adult admission and between $8 and $10 for children, depending on age. Now, we recommend you consider visiting on the first Wednesday of each month when admission is FREE. With such great rates, you could easily take any size family. However, if you take advantage of the free Wednesday admission and have more than 10 in your family, you will need to make reservations.
The Life Science exhibits are among the most popular in that they answer some of life's most interesting questions. For example, the Traits of Life exhibit opened three years ago. What makes this exhibit so incredible is that it took three years of intense research and development before it could be offered for public enjoyment. In all, more than 30 new biology exhibits exist, each revitalized and exciting. As a part of the Traits of Life, these exhibits provide a deep look into the fundamental elements of living things.
Another major renovation is the "Seeing" collection. With this, the entire family can see the influences of other cultures and environments. With this exhibit, you will be able to experience visual things like never before to include light and the eye, seeing motion, seeing depth, seeing color, and much more. This particular exhibit is also a favorite, helping people understand the visual system better through a unique series of collections.
The San Francisco Exploratorium has been open for more than 12 years. This museum is such a big hit that it has created a wonderful website that features a number of interactive activities. With so much to learn, the site now receives more than 18 millions visitors a year. You will discover the website being an extension of the physical museum, providing the same quality experience with virtual exhibits. When visiting in person, you want to head to the Palace of Fine Arts building in the Marina district near the Golden Gate Bridge.
Once you cross over the famous Golden Gate Bridge, you would simply follow the signs taking you toward downtown San Francisco. The Marina exist is easily marked. Once you exit off, you will go right into the museum's entrance with parking nearby. Just remember, San Francisco is a GREAT place to visit. You have beautiful beaches, wonderful shopping and restaurants, or for fun, you could take a trolley ride or wind your way down Lombard Street, an experience of a lifetime. Just be sure you take comfortable walking shoes and be prepared for lots of fun.
