Educational Vacations Get Boost from Hotel

I have long touted the value of taking family trips to educational destinations. The trend, which began with learning vacations for adults, is now being embraced by teens, who are looking to do more with their downtime than simply work on a gnarly tan. Loews Hotels recently introduced a program they are calling “Edu-cations.” The travel package is tailored to teens and combines a stay with learning a new skill such as cooking, golfing, surfing or getting an inside look at Nashville’s Music Row or New York’s financial markets. Some of the packages include: “Surfin’ Safari.” This package is offered … Continue reading

HOT Educational Vacation Destinations

It’s below freezing where I live, but instead of the weather getting me in the mood to research winter travel destinations, it only makes me want to seek out sunny locales all the more. If you plan to jump on the educational vacation bandwagon this season (for those of you who are not familiar with the trend of educational vacations, they are nothing more than trips to desired locations that feature an opportunity to learn something new) you might consider the following packages. Educational Vacations Growing in Popularity

I’ve been writing about the trend of “educational vacations” for a while now. But according to a new survey, the popularity of taking a “learning” vacation is once again on the rise. TripAdvisor.com recently surveyed more than 2,500 travelers and determined that 32% of them are planning to engage in educational activities while on vacation in 2008. That’s up 7% from last year. For those of you who are not familiar with the trend, an educational vacation is nothing more than combining a trip to a desired location with an opportunity to learn something new. For example, instead of lounging … Continue reading

Wal-Mart already has its back-to-school supplies out and in some states where year-round school is in place classes for the new year begin in a couple of weeks. If your family has yet to escape on a summer getaway the clock is ticking. The good news is that there are still a number of travel deals to be had. Take a look: HAWAII Securing a flight to Hawaii has gotten harder and more expensive in the last few months so this next deal is a rare find. … Continue reading

Belgium’s Bling and Tut’s Tour

It might be a long way to travel to see some bling, but it’s not every day that the “most astonishing building in the world” turns 50. Belgium’s Atomium celebrates the half century mark this summer and to commemorate the occasion the shiny towering structure made of nine giant aluminum-clad spheres linked with steel tubes (its design represents an iron atom magnified 165 billion times) is hosting a party for visitors. The massive model was built for the 1958 World’s Fair in Brussels and was originally planned as a temporary attraction. However, when the oddity was embraced by the 42 … Continue reading
