Bama’s Best

Hundreds of thousands of spring breakers may be basking their bodies on Florida’s beaches right now, but the “Sunshine State” is not the only place to live it up while school is out. A recent poll shows that Alabama is becoming a major spring break draw for a variety of revelers, from college co-eds to families with young children. “The Heart of Dixie” has long been a popular southern travel destination, but with a slew of new events taking place within its borders during the springtime, the state is experiencing a new energy. Alabama is also an attractive spot to … Continue reading

Miss Louisiana Teen USA Busted

“And if I am chosen as Miss Louisiana Teen USA, I promise to…get arrested.” That may not be the answer Miss Louisiana Teen USA gave to the typical question of what she would do if she won the title, but in this case, it turned out to be true. Lindsey Evans, the reigning Miss Louisiana Teen USA, has had her title stripped due to an arrest. It all started when 18 year old Lindsey and friends Jordan James (18), Jennifer Martin (22), and Morgan Goleman (18) went to the Posados Cafe in Bossier City last Saturday night. For whatever reason, … Continue reading

Snow Skiing in the Middle of Summer and Where to Get Bugged Out in the Big Easy

It may be sweltering hot in your neck of the woods, but somewhere in the world people are packing on layers of Lycra under their parkas and getting ready to cut into fresh power on snowy slopes. If would rather glide down a mountain on snow skis than navigate wakes on water skis then consider heading to the Southern Hemisphere this summer to tear down the slopes of Argentina and Chile. Education Vacation: The National World War II Museum

It’s the one place I wished my grandfather could have visited before he died. My grandpa was a member of the U.S. Army’s highly decorated 100th Battalion, 442nd Infantry. It is the only remaining Infantry unit in the Army Reserve force structure. Many books have chronicled the heroic actions of the members of the 100th Battalion and 442nd Infantry. Many note that none have shed their blood more valiantly for America than the Japanese Americans who served in these units while fighting enemy forces in Europe during World War II. My grandfather was a proud member of this elite group … Continue reading

Even More Kid-Friendly Vacation Destinations with Meaning

All this week I have been focusing on the upcoming spring break vacation season (after all, Easter is just two months away). Typically, it’s a time when parents take advantage of their children’s break from classes and head off on a family adventure. But instead of making a beeline to mingle with oversized mice in California or Florida, perhaps this year you could consider taking a trip that offers more educational value. As I mentioned in my previous blogs, vacations are great opportunities to learn about new cultures and take part in hands-on history lessons, especially if you choose the … Continue reading

Kids Score Big On Maui

I love autumn. It’s my favorite time of the year. Unfortunately, it goes by way too quickly and it’s always followed by the season I dread the most—winter. I grew up in Hawaii and now live in Wisconsin where the winters usually last about 9 months. Each year I find myself having to dig deeper and deeper to find the fortitude to withstand yet another round of brutal winter weather. Thankfully, my family still lives in Hawaii and winter is the ideal time to go home for a visit. There is very little that a few weeks in the Hawaiian … Continue reading
