Disney in San Francisco?

It's no joke.

Beginning October 1st, you'll be able to get a taste of Disney by the bay... San Francisco Bay.

That's where The Walt Disney Family Museum will be opening. The new structure, dedicated to all things Disney, will feature 10 galleries focusing on different chapters in the life of founding father Walt Disney, from his early years in Kansas City to his arrival in Hollywood in the 1920s. The museum also spotlights Mickey Mouse's dad's technological genius, like synchronizing sound to a cartoon.

Other displays include the one-of-a-kind Oscar statuettes awarded to Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (one full size and seven little ones) along with the earliest known drawings of Mickey Mouse and concept art featuring Bambi and Dumbo. Other exhibits include listening stations, interactive displays and more than 200 video monitors.

The museum is located at 104 Montgomery Street in San Francisco. It encompasses three buildings set in the Presidio, a former Army base, which boasts sweeping views of the Golden Gate Bridge.

You can visit every day except Tuesdays from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Admission is $20 for adults, $12.50 for kids 6-17.

If you can't make it to the West Coast during the autumn season to check out the new Disney Museum, then take advantage of fun family activities on the East Coast.

Smugglers' Notch in Jeffersonville, Vermont, is an award-winning family ski resort, which offers fantastic active vacations year-round. This year the property is offering a "Fall AutumnFest" package through October 12th. The super deal, which caters to families with young children, includes savings on lodgings and free admission to the resort's kid's camp.

Another East Coast-based money-saving travel opportunity awaits you at Winnetu Oceanside Resort in Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts. The exceptionally kid-friendly resort is slashing prices for the fall season, allowing families to save more than 50 percent on a seven-night stay. In addition, the property is throwing in a great list of complimentary perks, including kiddie tennis clinics, help-yourself bike rentals, fitness and yoga classes, and a parent-and-toddler activity program.
