Counting Down to 2008 in the Windy Cityby Michele Cheplic | More from this Blogger 31 Dec 2007 09:30 AM Where will you be bidding farewell to 2007? If you are visiting family in the Midwest and are looking for a memorable place to usher in 2008 then I would highly recommend heading to downtown Chicago. Some of my fondest New Year's Eve memories have been made in Chi-town and I'm hoping to continue the tradition for years to come. In my previous blog I listed some family-friendly events taking place around the Windy City for parents with young children. If you have older children or were lucky enough to find a babysitter and are planning to hit the town tonight you might want to consider the following popular New Year's Eve parties. They are Chicagoland traditions and will likely be packed, but what can you expect on December 31st? The venues may be crowded, but that just means you'll have more people to celebrate with. Regardless of where your travels take you tonight, here's wishing you and your family a safe New Year's Eve! New Year's Eve at Hyatt Regency McCormick Place. I actually attended this party years ago. The hotel offers a New Year's Eve package, which includes overnight accommodations, a DJ, party favors and a late check-out. You can opt for the dinner too, which includes an appetizer menu and cash bar. The big shindig gets underway at 9 p.m. Anti-Black Tie New Year's Eve Party. If you prefer to countdown to the New Year in jeans and a sweatshirt rather than a top hat and tails then head over to Piece at 1927 W. North Avenue (Bucktown/Wicker Park). The party gets underway at 9 p.m. That's when you can take part in a special food and drink package, which includes unlimited pizza, salad and dessert, Piece brews and wine. The 11th Annual New Year's Eve Rock 'N' Roll Ball. If Mother Nature decides to wreck havoc on your flight plans don't whine about it at the airport; rather head over to the Hyatt Regency O'Hare and party with hundreds of others at the hotel's annual New Year's Eve Rock 'N' Roll Ball. The big gig features live music, an open bar, food, party favors and more. Darkroom New Year's Eve: Class of '07. The Darkroom (2210 W. Chicago Ave.) always has great theme nights, but this one takes the cake. Owners are asking all guests to dress in high school themed attire and bid farewell to 2007 with them. The party will include performances by Dark Wave Disco DJs Trancid, Mark Gertz and Greg Corner, plus sets by DJs Tobias and Brock. It also includes a yearbook photo booth, open bar, party favors and a champagne toast. New Year's Eve at Fat Cat. If you like to dress up, but don't want to scrounge around for items you wore in high school then consider heading over to the Fat Cat (4840 N. Broadway) beginning at 9 p.m. Instead of a letterman's jacket, sport a zoot suit or flapper dress for this Roaring '20-themed party, where DJs spin vintage tracks from then and now. The party includes appetizers, a champagne fountain and a costume contest with prizes. Related Articles: Ringing in the New Year in Chicago Where Are You Ringing in 2008?
