Chicago's Festive Edible Treats (Or Where You Can Get Rudolph On A Bun)

I don't know about you, but I love to eat. My dream job would consist of traveling across the county and dining at the nation's best eateries. I'm not talking about the hoity-toity five-star restaurants (yes, they'd be on my list too), but I enjoy visiting the good ol' fashion diners, food carts and ma-and-pa establishments lauded by locals for having the best food in town.

I've found some unbelievably tasty treats in the Windy City (yes, this is yet another blog about Chicago). You've read my glowing reviews of the city's attractions and its family-friendly restaurants, but I cannot go an entire holiday season without sharing another of the city's epicurean delights with you... one that may inspire you to look at Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer in a whole new light.

Just in time for the holidays, Chicago's Redhots And Fries will be featuring reindeer hotdogs. Once a delicacy found only in Alaska (Anchorage, Alaska is home to the reindeer hotdog-there it's served in a traditional style--with grilled onions and mustard) Rudolph-on-a-bun is a seasonal menu item that is featured through January. The Redhots Reindeer Hot Dog costs $8.00 (tax included) and comes with your choice of toppings.

Chicago is famous for it's world-class hotdogs (I love mine with the works minus the onions), and this particular reindeer hot dog is ranked as one of the best anywhere. The dogs are produced by Indian Valley Meats, located in Indian, Alaska -- one of Alaska's largest game processors and seafood smokehouses-so you know you are getting a quality product.

Redhots is no stranger to unique menu items-the restaurant serves up everything from the traditional Chicago-style hot dog to exotic game hot dogs, like venison and alligator, in addition to fresh-cut Belgian fries with dipping sauces (hence the name Redhots and Fries). If you are in the Chicagoland area during the holidays and you want a taste of true holiday fare consider sinking your teeth into a nice juicy reindeer hot dog. You'll never think of Rudolph in quite the same way again.
