However, in these tough economic times many families are putting the brakes on their summer getaways. The trend is not going unnoticed by California businesses that count on tourists to stay afloat. Hence the following travel packages designed especially for travelers who are watching their wallets, but still want to treat the kids to some summer fun: MAMMOTH LAKES Mammoth Mountain Resort's Stay & Bike package is ideal for families who enjoy spending time on two wheels. For $152 you not only get accommodations in a luxury room, but also you will be treated to an All-Day Bike Park Pass. The pass gives each person access to 90 miles of trails, which wind around the resort. The expansive property is located in central California, on the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada mountain range within earshot of Yosemite National Park. The resort is known for its incredible slopes, but in the summer months the hills come alive with the sound of pedaling. Bikes abound at the resort and there's also a full service repair shop. If you don't want to bother packing your own wheels bike rentals are available at the resort. The offer starts June 20th and runs until September 22nd. SAN DIEGO The kids might be out of school for the summer but that doesn't mean the learning has to stop. Loews Coronado Bay Resort located on the San Diego Bay is offering families a chance to take part in a Volunteer Vacation. For $259 per night you will receive accommodations at the 440-room beachfront resort. The package also includes a tour of Silver Strand State Beach led by a state park educator. Your day at the beach will feature a workshop about the local wildlife and you'll also participate in a cleanup or planting project. In addition to getting a deluxe room, you'll also receive two boxed lunches and access to the resort's spa, swimming pools, tennis courts, and herb garden. The deal is good Fridays and Saturdays through December 28, 2008. OXNARD Embassy Suites Mandalay Hotel & Resort is offering an awesome Summer Getaway package for families. For $825 you'll get three nights' accommodations in a two-room, two-bath suite at this beachfront California resort. The package also includes daily complimentary breakfast and one in-room movie or an hour of Nintendo play, two bike rentals, a $50 credit at Capistrano's Restaurant at the resort, parking, and drinks at the resort's nightly happy hour. Oxnard is about 60 miles northeast of L.A. The deal starts June 1st and ends on September 7th.
