Budget Travel: Affordable Family Fun

It's not too late to get in one final family getaway before the new school year begins. If you have been sticking close to home because of rising fuel prices, then you will no doubt be happy to hear that several resorts throughout the United States are offering fabulous end of the summer discounts in an effort to make travel more affordable for cash strapped clans.

Take a look at the rollbacks being offered by hotels along the East Coast:

VIRGINIA

Make this summer one to remember by taking your family on a trip back in time and giving your kids hands-on history lessons. Right now Williamsburg Woodlands Hotel & Suites is offering a "Summer Saver" package, which includes four nights' accommodations (in a room with two double beds), breakfast daily and unlimited admission passes to Colonial Williamsburg for the whole family. While there you can tour exhibit sites, the indoor museums, and the street theater program--and get free parking and shuttle bus rides. (These passes would normally cost a family of four about $175.) In addition, you'll receive a $200 resort credit good toward golf, spa services, or meals at 10 on-site restaurants. Rates start at $150 per room per night, or $600 for the required four-night stay. The deal ends August 31, 2008.

PENNSYLVANIA

A slew of lodgings in the Philadelphia area are offering an Animal Discoveries Hotel package, which features two nights' hotel accommodations, free parking, and two adult and two child tickets to the Philadelphia Zoo, the Adventure Aquarium, and the Ride the Ducks Tour (a savings of $200). Participating hotels include: Embassy Suites Philadelphia-City Center, Holiday Inn Historic-Historic District, Hyatt Regency At Penn's Landing, Loews Historic Hotel, Sheraton Philadelphia City Center Hotel and Sheraton University City. Rates start at $250 per room per night for the entire package deal. The offer is good through November 30, 2008.

For those of us who live in the southwest, Las Vegas has some great deals for families with kids, but only a few of the hotels are really kid friendly. I actually created a site with my own reviews of the hotels I have stayed at in Las Vegas. Go to http://www.familyfriendlylasvegas.com to read my reviews.
