Broadway Bound

No trip to the Big Apple is complete without taking in a few Broadway shows. Whether you've never stepped foot in one of New York's famous theaters or you make going to a musical part of your annual family vacation you will pleased to know that tickets for some of Broadway's biggest shows are still available.

In my previous blog I mentioned that I am seriously considering taking a trip to New York in the coming months. My friend from high school generously offered me a place to stay and asked if I would like to take in a couple shows while I was in town.

How could I possibly say no to that?

I haven't made my reservations, but I have been researching current Broadway shows, ticket availability as well as prices and was pleasantly surprised that seats are still available for some of the musicals I have been dying to see. Granted some of the prices are a bit steep, but if you have the means and you are going to be in the Big Apple in the coming months you might be interested in reserving seats to see the following:

A Chorus Line. Michael Bennett's classic musical about dancers auditioning for a big Broadway show is back on Broadway and tickets are still available for weekend shows.

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. James Earl Jones, Phylicia Rashad, Terrence Howard and Anika Non-i Rose are all starring in this revival of the Tennessee Williams' classic, which just opened March 6th.

Curtains. This murder-mystery musical comedy with a score by John Kander and Fred Ebb stars one of my favorite actors David Hyde Pierce.

Grease. This revival of the venerable musical celebrating 1950s high school features stars chosen during the recent NBC television reality series. Cool.

Hairspray. The multiple Tony award-winning musical set in 1960s Baltimore still has tickets available for many of its performances.

Jersey Boys. The musical story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons is the winner of four 2006 Tonys including best musical. I would love nothing more than to fly my dad to New York to see this with him, but it is tough to get tickets to any of the performances and of the remaining tickets the prices are steep.

Legally Blonde. Laura Bell Bundy stars in this musical version of the Reese Witherspoon movie about a determined young woman who goes to Harvard Law School.

Mamma Mia! The London musical sensation featuring the pop songs of ABBA is still on Broadway and is a must-see for all die-hard fans of the famous music group.
