In these tough economic times some lodgings are pulling out all the stops to fill guest rooms. Some are a bit cleverer than others, but for the most part the offerings are designed to give you more bang for your buck.

Hotels in the Boston area have ramped up their promotions in just the last two weeks; perhaps hoping you will spend some of your tax rebates or part of your economic stimulus package on a vacation for the whole clan.

If you are looking to getaway to Beantown and want to save some cash on your hotel room check out the following deals:

MOTHER'S DAY

The Doubletree Hotel Boston-Downtown and the Doubletree Club Hotel Boston-Bayside are both offering spectacular deals just in time for Mother's Day. The Woman of the Year Mother's Day package includes a bouquet of flowers in your room upon arrival, breakfast or brunch for two, and a night's stay at either hotel for just $123. The Doubletree Downtown is located in the theater district, two blocks from the Boston Common and the Public Garden, and within walking distance to the Freedom Trail. Meanwhile the Bayside location is next to the Boston Bayside Expo & Conference Center. The hotel provides complimentary shuttle service to and from the airport. This offer expires May 11th.

SENIORS RULE

The Boston Park Plaza Hotel & Towers is offering a unique package they are calling Pay Your Birth Year. It proves to be a real money saver for people born in the 1920s to 1950s. Here's how it works: You pay $199 per room for the first night at the hotel and your price for the second night is equal to the last two digits of the year you were born. (For example if you were born in 1940, you pay $40.) The historic hotel opened in 1927 and is a landmark in the Boston area. It is adjacent to the Public Garden and has eight restaurants and lounges.

BASEBALL FANS

Boston's Hotel Marlowe is pitching a great deal to baseball fans. The lodging's "Baseball as America" package includes one night accommodation and breakfast for four (a $100 value), four VIP passes to the Museum of Science, featuring the "Baseball As America" exhibit, and classic baseball treats, Cracker Jacks and soda for just $329. You'll also get two Kimpton Kids Kits, which include a sudsy bath sponge, a deck of Kimpton playing cards, a yo-yo, a kids' luggage tag, a coloring pad with crayons, and a Kimpton Kids backpack. The Hotel Marlowe provides incredible views of the Charles River in Cambridge, across from downtown Boston. The deal is good from June 15-Sept. 1, 2008.
