I suppose blogs dealing with beaches would be appropriate since the summer is approaching fast. Thousands of families will be making their way to crowd the beaches and poolsides, seeking relief from the blazing sun. That's what summer is about. Before you let the kids just plunge into the water, it's wise to know some beach safety tips.

We already know that most public beaches have lifeguards on duty. It's also obvious that on any given day, beachgoers outnumber lifeguards by a great amount. God forbid anything happens. In the event that something tragic happens, it's best to be prepared.

1st Get details about the safe and unsafe areas of the beach. It's better to know beforehand the dangerous areas to avoid.

2nd It's best to swim with a buddy rather than alone. If anything were to happen, you have someone to help you out or at least go and seek help if you need any.

3rd This is something you should probably pay special attention to: If there are areas of brown and sandy water, stay away from it. It most likely is a riptide. If you happen to be in one, don't swim against it. Swim parallel to the shore until you are free from the riptide then head towards the shore. Swimming against a riptide is like trying to push a car on a sheet of ice.

4th It's also recommended that you don't turn your back to the waves. Waves carry more energy than you think and have the force to knock you down. If you are out in the deeper areas of the ocean and the surf is pretty big, you have a better chance of ducking under it rather than jumping up to fight it.

These are just several tips I thought I'd share with you. If you happen to be parents of older kids that don't need your supervision, share these ideas with them so that they know what to do in the event they find themselves in a situation where one of these tips would save them.
