Did I also mention that the same room typically sells for $200 per night? Sound too good to be true? Well, it isn't. Business is slow at the Rancho Bernardo Inn, so from August 16 to 31, you can sun in style at the ultra-luxe property. Okay, okay, there is a catch. The hotel's "Survivor Package" does come with a few caveats. For starters, in order to score the $19 price you have to give up breakfast, air conditioning, lights, sheets and oh yeah, the bed. Staff will remove the mattress and headboard and leave a small tent instead. Um... and you need to bring your own toilet paper too. Still, for less than $20 you get access to the pools and the showers are free. And while you may have to sleep in a tent, at least you don't have to relieve yourself in an outhouse or deal with pesky bugs all night. If you prefer having electricity in your hotel room, but don't have a ton of money to burn on an end-of-the-summer getaway, then consider heading to Miami. That's where you will find sizzling savings on rooms at the city's historic 1930s-era Clay Hotel. The property is located just two blocks from the beach and the guestrooms at the Spanish-style art deco hotel offer satellite TV, refrigerators, and private baths. Summer rates start from just $58 per night, and if you stay Friday and Saturday nights you get 50 percent off on your Sunday night stay. And you don't have to bring your own toilet paper.
