Affordable Women-Only Vacationsby Michele Cheplic | More from this Blogger 17 Feb 2008 10:21 PM What wife hasn't endured at least one "guys' weekend" in the course of her marriage? Whether your husband jets off to golf with his buddies, hunt with his brothers or fish with pals it is not the least bit unusual for men to bond on male-only vacations. But how many of you ladies know that there are dozens of women-only travel companies that provide affordable female-only trips that promise empowerment, relaxation, and adventure at a variety of locales across the nation? If you have always dreamed of taking time to explore the country with women who share a passion for travel you should seriously consider checking out some of the incredible packages being offered in 2008. I plan to post a series of blogs spotlighting some of the most affordable and exciting deals available and will begin with the following that caters to women who enjoy outdoor adventures: Wildside Adventures for Women is offering a 4-day hiking and backpacking trip in North Carolina's Blue Ridge Mountains for just $390. The tour starts June 12th in Weaverville, North Carolina and entails hiking to the summit of Grandfather Mountain, the highest peak in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and kayaking the French Broad River. According to tour directors, from Calloway Peak on Grandfather Mountain you will be treated to incredible views of the Blue Ridge Mountain Range. Meanwhile, the kayaking portion of the trip will offer the opportunity to float through the Biltmore estate and to observe wildlife along the way. Rates include accommodations, kayaking equipment, two dinners, entrance fees, and guides. Transportation to Weaverville and other meals are extra. (The town is a 30-minute drive from the Asheville, North Carolina airport.) If you can't stand being away from your family for more than 4 days (or vice versa) then consider signing up for Adventure Associates' shorter kayaking trip. The 3-day tour is priced at $500 and includes the opportunity to view orca whales, bald eagles, harbor seals, and great blue herons up close and personal on a women-only adventure in Washington's San Juan Islands. This particular trip is based out of a forested camp on the main San Juan Island and guests will be taught sea kayaking skills and then venture out each day in hopes of observing some of the Puget Sound's resident orca whales, as well other marine mammals and birds. At night you'll be able to relax, talk, and eat dinner as a group. Departure dates are scheduled throughout May, June, July, and August. The $500 trip price covers kayaking and camping equipment and fees, guides, meals, and transfers to and from the base camp.
