Affordable Accommodations in Hawaiiby Michele Cheplic | More from this Blogger 29 Feb 2008 12:55 AM It might sound hard to believe considering a mere ticket to paradise can often cause serious damage to your credit score, but there are ways to save on lodging expenses when visiting the Aloha State. Okay, so it might not be as cheap as staying with your parents in their oceanfront home, but the following options are worth checking out: OAHU Home to Waikiki, Pearl Harbor, and the world famous North Shore, Oahu is quintessential Hawaii and the most populated (See: crowded) of all the Hawaiian Islands. To save money stay away from pricey Waikiki and head to the Manoa Valley Inn. The Victorian B&B is located in a residential area of Honolulu near the University of Hawaii. Suites there go for a low as $110 and include a king bed and a sitting room. If you prefer to stay in the country take the ride out to the North Shore and relax at Ke Iki Beach Bungalows. The top rated, unpretentious condo property located near Haleiwa is always extremely popular, but if you book well in advance you could score the beachfront Gardenia bungalow for $195. (Other bungalows are priced as low as $125.) MAUI Maui is known for its low-key atmosphere and spectacular powder soft sand beaches. Of course, neither one comes without a price. Your best bets to save money include staying at the Old Wailuku Inn. The historic B&B features Asian antiques including headboards salvaged from Buddhist temples in China. And at a price of $150 per room per night it's a deal that is hard to beat. The Lahaina Inn also offers great savings. It features the comfort and romance of a 19th century inn in a restored 60-year-old hostelry, which was once a general store. Rooms here go start at just $145 per night. The Lahaina Shores Beach Resort is another excellent value. It boasts fully equipped beachfront condos decked out in traditional Hawaiian hues. Mountain views are currently being offered for just $200. Related Articles: Hawaii--Visiting the Big Island's Best Waterfalls Hawaiian 101: "Was that Mauka or Makai?"
