How Did They Land That Gig?

I suppose when you are a celebrity the world is your oyster and therefore you needn’t ask if you will get to embark on a particular project (no matter how far fetched it may be), but rather, you wonder when the job will be yours. Such is the case with the following stars who are attempting to cross over to different public mediums, though whether they will be successful in doing is still up in the air. TIM MCGRAW Tim McGraw already has legions of Texas two-stepping fans and multiple Grammys to validate his career, but now he’s reaching out … Continue reading

Leona Helmsley’s $12 Million Bequest to Her Dog

As I often do when I eat breakfast, I watched the Today Show this morning. I tuned in right as Ann Curry interviewed a lady from Court TV about the late Leona Helmsley bequeathing $12 million to her Maltese, Trouble. I guess the big hoopla has to do with the fact that not only did she specifically not leave anything to two of her four grandchildren, but she either didn’t leave a dime to her 12 great-grandchildren or what she did leave was ridiculously small compared to the largest bequest she made –the $12 million to Trouble, who at eight-years-old … Continue reading

Could Katie Couric Be Bolting From CBS?

To answer the question… it’s highly unlikely. Despite record low ratings and an onslaught of personal attacks from colleagues she thought she could trust, it seems that CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric will honor her 5-year contract with the network. Of course, that doesn’t mean that all that has transpired since she left her cushy job at NBC has not taken a toll on her confidence and composure. In a lengthy interview with New York magazine Couric (for the first time) publicly admits she has second-guessed her move from the Today show to the Evening News. Couric tells the … Continue reading

Celebrity Milestones: Look Who’s Engaged, Pregnant and Newly Single

ENGAGED Seems as though towering basketball star Yao Ming may have met his match—off the court. The 7′ 6″ center for the Houston Rockets just announced that he plans to tie the knot with his longtime girlfriend. According to the Chinese state press, 27-year-old Yao will marry 25-year-old Ye Li in a private ceremony – possibly in their home city of Shanghai, China. The pair has been dating for 8 years (they met as teenagers when he was playing for the Shanghai Sharks men’s team). The couple has at least one thing in common—they both play professional basketball. Ye stands … Continue reading

Celebrity Update: Good News/Bad News

Let’s begin with the bad news. (I prefer to end blogs on a happy note.) In a previous blog I detailed the tragic health crisis that former televangelist Tammy Faye Messner is dealing with. Unfortunately, things have gone from bad to worse for Messner. According to her website, doctors have stopped treating her cancer and she now weighs in at a mere 65 pounds. Messner says she looks like a “scarecrow” and needs a “miracle” to survive. In what some are calling a farewell letter, Messner posted a thank you to her “faithful friends” who have supported her through three … Continue reading

Furor Over Imus

In a few hours I will be tuning into “The Oprah Winfrey Show” to watch the Rutgers’ women’s basketball team and their coach respond to remarks made about the players by radio host Don Imus. For those of you out of the loop Imus sparked a firestorm of controversy when he made a racially motivated disparaging remark about the mostly black Rutgers team on his nationally syndicated radio show last week. In the days since cable network MSNBC pulled the plug on his talk show’s television simulcast and various big name sponsors, including American Express, Staples, Procter & Gamble, and … Continue reading

Morning Show Anchors Swap Holiday Gifts

Like co-workers around the world the hosts of the network’s morning news shows participated in a seasonal gift exchange this week. I got to watch most of it and found it quite amusing. On NBC’s “Today” show Matt, Meredith, Ann and Al gave each other fruit and vegetable baskets, state-of-the-art luggage, racecar driving lessons, tote bags, yoga lessons and cooking lessons. Meanwhile, on ABC’s “Good Morning America” the gift exchange was a bit more, um, tearful. Here’s why: this year Diane Sawyer was the Secret Santa for her co-host Robin Roberts. But, instead of getting her a day at the … Continue reading

How To Get On TV (Maybe) In New York City

This is a follow up to my blog: “A Trip to the Today Show–How to Say Goodbye to Katie Couric In Person.” It dawned on me that some of you may have no desire to bid farewell to Katie Couric, or for that matter, you may have no interest in seeing the Today show live. No problem. There are many other shows that broadcast live or are taped in New York City. If you are planning a trip to the Big Apple and want to experience what it’s like to be a part of the audience of a nationally televised … Continue reading
