A Real Travel Deal

I have written about travel deals offered by American Airlines in previous blogs, but this one may take the cake. (Mainly because you don't have to fork over any money to qualify.) Okay, technically, I suppose you could consider it more of a giveaway than deal, but either way it involves travel... and not just to anywhere.

The air carrier is giving you a chance to stroll down the star-studded red carpet in Hollywood (or simply travel to the destination of your choice) in the new Double Feature sweepstakes. The contest's grand prize is a trip for two to a 20th Century Fox movie premiere. (The actual movie premiere will be determined after the winner has been selected. Based on the winner's availability, travel plans will be made to coincide with the premiere of a 20th Century Fox movie.) In addition to the grand prize, a $500 American Airlines gift card will be awarded to one lucky winner each day during the month-long contest.

It's a breeze to enter (I already did). All you have to do is visit the airlines' website. Once there you'll learn that you are allowed two chances to win. You receive one entry by registering during the promotional period -- June 21 through July 20, 2007. And you receive another entry by forwarding the sweepstakes information to others.

I should note that the contest is part of a promotion touting American's new online booking tool, which allows you to search for flights in a variety of ways --by price, by schedule, and by combining price and schedule. The booking tool also provides access to flight details like travel time, seat maps, and aircraft type. According to airline representatives, being able to search by price and schedule combined is "the perfect double feature." (Hence the contest's name.)

Finally, just in case you were thinking that the grand prize involved a cash payout know this: The trip to the movie premiere will be fulfilled as $5,000 in American Airlines gift cards and a $5,000 MasterCard gift card.
